Warranty & care

Every Layer Production watch is a mechanical piece built to last. This page brings together what you need to know about your warranties and the simple habits that keep your watch in good condition day after day.

Your warranties

Legal warranty of conformity: 2 years

Under Articles L. 217-1 to L. 217-32 of the French Consumer Code, your watch is covered by the legal warranty of conformity for two years from delivery. In the event of a lack of conformity, you may have it repaired or replaced free of charge within thirty days. If the watch is repaired, the warranty is extended by six months.

Warranty against hidden defects

You also benefit from the warranty against hidden defects (Articles 1641 to 1649 of the French Civil Code) for two years from the discovery of the defect. You may then ask for a price reduction, or return the watch for a refund.

What the warranty does not cover

The warranty does not cover knocks and drops, use beyond the stated water resistance, opening of the case by an unauthorised person, exposure to chemicals, or normal wear of the strap, crystal and finishes. Full terms are set out in our terms of sale.

Personalised pieces

A watch engraved or made to your request is a personalised piece: it cannot be exchanged or returned, as the right of withdrawal does not apply to clearly personalised goods (Article L. 221-28 of the French Consumer Code). The legal warranties still apply to the watch as ordered; however, defects resulting from an engraving or a modification carried out outside the workshop are not covered.

How to make a claim

Write to us at info@layerwatches.com with your order number, the number of your piece and a description of the problem, with photos. We will tell you how to return the watch to the workshop (Layer, 146 rue Victor Hugo, 54800 Jarny, France). Never ship a watch before receiving our instructions.

Caring for your automatic watch

The movement

Your watch is driven by a Miyota 8215 automatic movement: it winds itself with the motion of your wrist and has a power reserve of around 42 hours. If you have not worn it for more than two days, wind it by hand by turning the crown (in the pushed-in position) 15 to 20 times, then give it a gentle shake: it will start again on its own.

Setting the date and time

  • Crown pulled out one click: turn it anticlockwise to set the date.
  • Crown pulled out two clicks: set the hours and minutes, then push the crown fully back in.
  • Do not set the date between 9 pm and 4 am: the date-change mechanism is engaged during this period and could be damaged.

5 ATM water resistance

Your watch is water-resistant to 5 ATM (50 metres). It withstands rain, splashes and hand-washing, but is not designed for swimming or diving. Avoid immersion, hot showers, saunas and thermal shocks, and never operate the crown when the watch is wet. Water resistance is not permanent: it decreases with time, knocks or opening of the case. Have it checked whenever the watch is serviced.

The materials

Damascus steel, Mokuti, Superconductor, forged carbon and crystallised titanium surfaces are cleaned with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents, abrasives or ultrasonic baths. Avoid prolonged contact with salt water, perfumes and household products, and wipe the watch after a hot day or exposure to perspiration.

The leather strap

Genuine leather lives with you. Avoid getting it wet; if it does get wet, let it dry in the open air, away from any heat source. Wipe it regularly with a soft cloth and take the watch off for sport. If you would like to replace it, contact us.

Knocks and magnetic fields

Take your watch off for activities involving hard knocks. Keep it away from magnets (bag clasps, speakers, tablet or phone cases), which can affect the running of the movement.

Servicing

Like any mechanical movement, the Miyota 8215 deserves a service (cleaning, lubrication, water-resistance check) every three to five years, or as soon as you notice an unusual change in timekeeping. Contact us to arrange it.
